Romania’s designated Prime Minister Eugen Tomac has stated that bringing Moldova closer to Romania and the European Union will be one of his priorities if he secures the support needed to form a government. In an interview with Antena 3, Tomac outlined several initiatives he intends to promote, ranging from the creation of a common media space between Romania and the Republic of Moldova to closer alignment of educational systems and the organization of joint sporting competitions, spotmedia.ro reports. One of the first initiatives announced by the prime minister-designate is the harmonization of legislation in the two countries so that Romanian television and radio broadcasters can more easily operate in Moldova, while Moldovan media outlets gain easier access to the Romanian market. “The first step will be to initiate dialogue with the government in Chisinau in order to create a common communication space,” Tomac stated. According to him, the project would help combat disinformation and reduce the influence of Russian-language media. “In a natural way, we can help the Republic of Moldova in its efforts to combat disinformation and this process of Russification. The influence of the Russian-language press remains a fairly serious problem,” the prime minister-designate noted.
