Home / Economy / Belous on Taxing Overseas Orders: ‘It’s a Fair Measure’
Orders from Chinese online platforms worth up to €150 will be subject to 20% VAT from 1 November 2026. From 1 January 2027, a handling fee of 12 lei will also be charged on each parcel.
Finance Minister Victoria Belous says the measures will ensure a level playing field for Moldovan businesses that pay taxes and duties. She made the remarks on the Forum programme on Vocea Basarabiei, Unimedia.info reports.
“VAT will apply from 1 November, while the administrative fee will be introduced on 1 January. I believe this is a fair measure towards the Moldovan business community, which pays customs duties, VAT, taxes on employees and local fees for commercial premises,” the minister said.
Purchases made through international platforms such as Temu were initially due to become taxable in Moldova from 1 October 2026. The introduction of the tax measures was later postponed by one month.
