Moldova and Ukraine intend to fast-track the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Moldelectrica and Ukrenergo aimed at strengthening electricity interconnections and enhancing energy security in both countries. The issue was discussed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and his Ukrainian counterpart, Serhii Koretskyi, during a meeting in Kyiv, IPN.md reports. The two sides also discussed preparations for a project to build a second circuit of the Bălți-Dnestrovsk power line. According to the government, the interconnection could increase electricity exchange capacity between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine by around 500 MW. The prime ministers also discussed expanding cooperation in the natural gas sector. The prime ministers also addressed water-level management on the Dniester River, focusing on better coordination of water releases and ensuring an adequate water supply for settlements downstream. Serhii Koretskyi positively assessed the constructive dialogue with his Moldovan counterpart and the fulfilment of commitments made during bilateral talks. “Since our first phone conversation, everything that was said has been fulfilled. It is very important that people keep their word, and we greatly appreciate that,” the Ukrainian prime minister said.
