Home / News / Zakharova: Transnistria Remains on the Agenda of the Russian Leadership
According to Maria Zakharova, Transnistria is the most difficult issue in her professional activities. Russia has never forgotten about Transnistria, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova, during a multimedia press conference Sputnik on Tuesday.
Asked by media about whether Russia will support Transnistria if the situation develops negatively when establishing joint control of Moldova and Ukraine on the border with the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic, Zakharova noted that Russia regularly provides assistance to the region.
“You know perfectly well that it (support - ed.) is provided and was provided even when Russia itself needed support and assistance, but it never forgot about Transnistria. Therefore, we proceed from the facts that, of course, sovereign states have the right, and we have repeatedly stressed this, to pursue their policy, but it should not be directed against their own people”, said Zakharova.
According to her, this policy should not hit in humanitarian terms people who over the decades have been endured quite a few, and who have gone through very difficult times.
This situation is, indeed, not just discussed, but also in practical terms, it is on our agenda - said Zakharova.
