Negotiators from EU member states and the European Parliament failed to seal the 2019 EU budget. The European Commission must submit a new proposal for the 2019 budget.
Negotiators from EU member states and the European Parliament failed to seal the 2019 EU budget before a midnight deadline passed on Monday.
The EU's budget commissioner Günther Oettinger said that a fresh proposal would be delivered in a few days to allow sealing the deal by the end of the year. If there is still no breakthrough, the budget will be updated month-to-month without the expected increase for 2019.
Earlier the European Commission proposed to approve a budget in the amount of €165.6 billion, which is 3 percent more than the current one. When the negotiations began, EU countries representatives demanded to reduce the planned volume by €1.5 billion, and the deputies of the European Parliament, on the contrary, to increase it by €770 million.
