The bill, which provides for amendments to the Electoral code to abolish the mixed electoral system in the case of parliamentary elections, was adopted in the first reading by the MPs of the new parliamentary majority. The document provides for a return to the previous electoral system, through which legislators are elected on the basis of party lists, reports TV8.md The new law gives the right to citizens of the Diaspora to vote two days in a row – Saturday and Sunday. The polling stations will be formed by the Central Electoral Commission with the prior consent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European integration on the back of the number of voters who participated in the previous elections. MPs have also set ceilings for donations that can be made to the election campaign. An individual cannot donate more than six average salaries, employees – not more than 12 average monthly salaries. If the Moldovans have the income from abroad, this ceiling may not exceed 3 average monthly wages. Officers of state may not donate to political parties more than 10% of their annual income. In accordance with the amendments to the Electoral Code of the Republic of Moldova, made by the MPs, students and pupils will have the right to vote where they study but not where they are registered.
