Russia is ready to preserve the gas transit through Ukraine after 2019 after fair litigation settlements between Gazprom and Naftogaz, stated First Deputy Head of the Russian government’s office, Sergei Prikhodko, TASS reports.
According to him, the Kremlin will continue to supply gas through Ukraine following certain economic conditions. Prikhodko added that at the end of the construction of Nord Stream 2 the gas transit routes will not be changed. “This concerns both Ukraine and other countries,” he noted.
On June 18, Ukrainian company Naftogaz offered Gazprom in case the parties fail to agree on gas transit through the Ukrainian territory after 2019, to enter into a contract “swap” of raw materials at the border.
The current contract for the gas transit from Russia through the territory of Ukraine expires on December 31, 2019. At the end of this year, Russia also plans to launch two gas pipelines - Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream. Both go around the Ukrainian territory. Kyiv believes that after this the country’s gas transportation system will be unclaimed.
