Moldovan President Igor Dodon met with National Security Advisor to the President of the United States John Bolton, who is visiting Moldova.
The parties discussed a wide range of bilateral issues noting their activity after a peaceful change of power in early June, aif.md reports.
- In this context, we have reached common ground on the importance of maintaining internal consensus and continuing external support for the parliamentary majority and the Government of the Republic of Moldova. I positively assessed the increased U.S. leadership interest in building more intensive contacts with our country, recalled the visits of senior representatives of the State Department and the International Development Agency (USAID). This indicates the beginning of a fundamentally new stage in the development of strategic partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the U.S.A, Igor Dodon noted on his social network page.
During the conversation, the Moldovan leader expressed gratitude to the American leadership for the constant multilateral support of the Republic of Moldova. In particular, Igor Dodon noted the successful implementation of the Millennium Challenge and Compact projects, adding that Moldova is looking forward to the implementation of new large-scale programs.
- I also emphasized that the Presidential Administration in coordination with the Parliament and the Government will continue to pursue a balanced foreign policy to establish pragmatic partnerships with countries of the West and East. In this context, I pointed out the need for a peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict respecting the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, the head of state added.
At the end of the meeting, Igor Dodon informed the American official about his intention to address the UN General Assembly in New York in late September. In this regard, he stressed that the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Moldova expects to hold a bilateral meeting with representatives of the American leadership in Washington or New York.
