Kiev will receive about $ 450 million less a year due to the launch of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, said the Director General of the Ukrainian GTS Operator Serhii Makohon. The Turkish Stream was launched the day before, January 8th. The pipeline runs from Russia to Turkey along the bottom of the Black Sea. Its construction was estimated at approximately € 7 billion.
Answering journalists' question about the possible losses of Ukraine due to the launch of the Turkish Stream, Mr. Makohon said that “this cannot be called loss, it is lost revenue.” “We won’t simply earn that money,” he explained at a press conference (quoted by RIA Novosti).
The Turkish Stream launch ceremony in Istanbul was attended by Russian and Turkish presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, aan also by the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and the Serbian President Alexander Vučić. Mr. Erdogan promised that Russia and Turkey will implement new joint projects in the energy field.
Recall, one line of the gas pipeline with a capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters is designed for the needs of Turkey, and the second - to supply the countries of Southern and Southeast Europe. At the beginning of 2020, Northern Macedonia and Greece, as well as Bulgaria, began to receive gas via the Turkish Stream.
