Presidential elections in Belarus might take place after adopting a new constitution, during a visit to the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant (MZKT) Alexander Lukashenko stated. This reported RIA Novosti. The TASS agency writes that Lukashenko considers adopting a new constitution by means of a popular referendum being condition for holding new elections. He stated this on the air of the Belarus-24 TV channel on Monday. The BBC draws attention to the Lukashenko’s words that he will not leave power even if pressure on him. The presidential candidate of Belarus, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya expressed her readiness today taking on the political leader’s duties to prepare reforms and new elections. US President Donald Trump called the situation in Belarus "terrible" and said that the United States is closely following it, Voice of America reported. The other day, speaking in the Polish capital during his European tour, US State Secretary, Mike Pompeo said that Washington is monitoring the situation in Belarus. According to him, the purpose of his contacts with the EU leaders is to try help the Belarusian people "gain sovereignty and freedom."
