Ex-leader of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc intends to return to Moldova at the end of the year. This announced on 23 September the ex-lawyer of Vladimir Filat, Igor Popa on the air of the program Secretele Puterii on Jurnal TV
According to Popa, when he met with Plahotniuc in Miami, the former PDM leader complained that the US plans using him in some missions.
“I asked him, what are you doing here, coward? Why did you make this mess in Moldova and caused trouble between me and Filat? He was sitting in a cafe trembling like a mouse and swearing by his children it wasn’t him to do it. He said that he will return to Moldova by the end of the year and everything will be fine,” Popa said.
The lawyer noted that after Plahotniuc fled Moldova, he traveled to several other countries.
“He said that he was in Romania, Ukraine, and that the Americans want to use him for kind of dubious missions. These are all his tales. He imagines he can still provide a service to the Americans,” Popa said.
Recall, in mid-June, Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo sent a request to the competent US authorities to extradite former leader of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc. According to the prosecutor's office, the Prosecutor General sent an extradition request based on the provisions of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, which Moldova ratified in October 2015.
Balti Mayor Renato Usatii stated Plahotniuc is to be extradited from the United States
after the new year. Usatii noted that Plahotniuc's extradition will become possible namely "thanks to the people who are really fighting him," in contrast to the current country’s leadership. Usatii claimed that today Plahotniuc cannot leave the territory of the United States, no matter how much he wants to.
