Today, Prime Minister Ion Chicu took part in the opening ceremony of the international specialized exhibitions Moldagrotech and Farmer-2020. This year, the events are held in a new format on the premises of the Institute of Phytotechnics in Porumbeni. The Prime Minister stressed that these expositions serve as an effective platform for dialogue between farmers, agricultural companies, manufacturers and suppliers of equipment and materials, central and local authorities, as well as representatives of the scientific community,  noi.md  reported Chicu stressed that the state supports the agro-industrial sector’s development by means of the subsidy mechanism. Most of the funds are directed to the modernization of agricultural machinery and irrigation equipment, the development of the horticultural sector and the infrastructure for processing agricultural products. The total amount of subventions over the past 5 years amounted to 1.8 billion lei. The prime minister also added that since this year most of the crops suffered due to unfavorable climatic conditions, the last government meeting decided to increase the amount allocated additionally to the Agricultural Subsidy Fund in order to compensate for the losses of farmers in the first group of cereals. “We want to modernize agriculture, we want it to become attractive to all participants in the agro-industrial process, including young farmers. The government will continue to develop effective policies in this area”, Chicu said. International specialized exhibitions Moldagrotech and Farmer -2020 will work until October 17 inclusive. About 50 companies from the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine take part in the events.
