It is necessary to agree on their date and joint actions in this regard, the current President of Moldova said.
The current President of Moldova Igor Dodon rejected the opposition's demand to dismiss Ion Chicu’s government in order to achieve the dissolution of the current parliament. In an interview with the Moldovan TV channel
N4, he said that the issue of early elections should be discussed in negotiations between the two largest parties that have a chance to get into the next parliament,
tass.ru reported.
"The decision on early elections should be made during negotiations between the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) and the Party of Action and Solidarity [led by Maia Sandu]. <...> It is necessary to establish the date of early elections and joint actions in this regard," Dodon said. He explained that the PSRM, he informally leaders, and the Sandu party will be able to block the work of parliament; afterwards President Sandu will be able to sign a decree dissolving the legislature.
For his part, Dodon assured that the PSRM will do everything to ensure that early elections take place in the fall of 2021.
The current composition of the PSRM parliament disposes of 37 mandates out of 101. The faction of the pro-European Action and Solidarity Party disposes of 15. Pro-European opposition parties are discussing the possibility of Ion Chicu’s PSRM government resignation, but they do not possess the necessary number of votes for this.
The Cabinet of Ministers resignation, can lead with a high degree of probability, to the dissolution of parliament, so that many deputies do not want this. The government is not required by law to resign when a new president takes office. Dodon's presidential term expires on December 23, while Sandu's inauguration is scheduled for December 24.
