Despite the promises of the government that Moldova will have gas in winter, the situation remains very uncertain, especially since there is a war in the neighboring country which can also affect the gas transmission infrastructure.
“Gazprom would want to terminate the contract with Moldovagaz and is working on solutions that would make it possible to supply gas to the Transdniestrian region without obligations to supply gas to the right bank of the Dniester. However, the probability of such a scenario is low, energy expert Victor Parlicov noted during a program on JurnalTV.
“We cannot be sure that we are in complete safety. However, I believe that Gazprom wants to terminate the contract with Moldovagaz and is now looking for solutions such as supplying gas to the Transdniestrian region without any obligation to supply gas to the right bank of the Dniester. The probability of such a scenario is relatively low, since Chisinau is the only guarantee that gas will reach the left bank.
If Moldova bought gas in the south, bypassing Transdniestria, the Ukrainians would not allow the transit of gas through their territory to Tiraspol. However, attempts to accelerate the issue and find solutions to deliver gas to Transdniestria without supplying it to the right bank, I think, will be made.
This is an unlikely scenario, but it cannot be completely ruled out,” Parlicov said.
