According to Igor Dodon, “Moldova looks like a cart catching up the European “train” which loses its cars along the way. Moldova’s former president, Igor Dodon, believes that the republic should refuse its pro-European foreign policy course, tass.ru reports. “I do not believe in European integration, and I do not believe that Moldova will become part of the EU, because the European Union itself will not exist anymore soon, for its partners are killing it economically. <...> The EU can no longer exist in its present form, something has to change,” Dodon said in an interview with Moldova 1 on Tuesday. In his words, Moldova looks like a cart catching up with the European “train” which loses its cars along the way. The former president noted that staying neutral and maintaining good relations with all countries is important for Moldova. “We need a strategic partnership with Russia, with China, with Romania, Hungary, Turkey. We need to stay friends with everyone, based on our interests,” Dodon said. After the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova lost the 2021 elections, Dodon resigned as party leader to head the Moldovan-Russian Business Union. The new government was formed by the pro-European Action and Solidarity Party. Point
