One railway worker at today’s protest in front of the government building expressed his displeasure that no official came out to talk to the demonstrators about the payment of salary arrears.
“Where are Sandu, Recean, Bolea? Bolea died? No, then let him come out to us,” the man said, noi.md reported.
The protesters say they will not back down until they get their wages. “We will protest for as long as it takes until they give the salaries to the people, everyone who is here. Listen to what people are saying. I need my salary to have something to put in schoolbags and send my children to school. I have two children studying at school. I haven’t eaten properly for seven months. My wife asks me: What can I put in your bag if you don’t get a salary? Where is Maia Sandu to come and tell me how I get my salary. I haven’t received my salary for seven months; I have 7,000 lei per month. I am lucky that my wife is retired and gets 4,000 lei a month. If I come hungry to work, they ask me why I can’t work?” - complained one of the protesters.
He recalled that last year, after a similar protest, the wage arrears were cleared. “We protested a year ago. Then Mr Tofilat clarified the situation and gave us our salaries and arrears for the year, holiday compensation. I have to lift 280kg every day,” he says.
When asked why he did not change jobs, the man explained that his is close to retirement. “How can I retrain if I am due to retire in a year’s time? Who will accept me? Where is the justice? Recean, Bolea? Where is Bolea? Bolea died? He is not dead, let him come and tell us: ‘We will give you monthly for 2-3 months’. They have not even given me my salary for August,” he added.
The railway workers’ protest action was organized in front of the government building, with participants demanding payment of unpaid wages and a solution to problems in the railway industry.
