The European Union intends to continue providing assistance in modernizing the agricultural sector of the Republic of Moldova, but an aid remains limited, said European Commissioner for Agriculture Christophe Hansen. According to the official, the new financial instruments will only become available in 2028, when Moldova will be able to count on the funds provided for prior to EU accession. Until then, resources will be limited, as Brussels directs most of its aid to EU member states, reports tv8.md. “Resources are currently extremely limited. We are obliged to support EU member states until 2027. However, in the new budget cycle, starting in January 2028, there will be opportunities to allocate more funds to future member states, as well as to combat the effects of climate change, which are affecting farmers,” Hansen emphasized. The European Commissioner noted that in order to receive support, Moldovan agricultural producers need to reduce their losses and refocus on modern technologies. In particular, this involves investments in irrigation, infrastructure and adaptation to climate change.
