Home / Economy / Moldova Railway’s Anti-Crisis Measures: 2,200 Employees Dismissed, Wage Fund Reduced
The monthly operating income of Moldovan Railways (MR) exceeded the threshold of 60 million lei, which made it possible to reduce wage arrears and repay obligations to suppliers and the state, according to a press release from the company.
In July and August 2025, wage arrears fell from 7-8 months to 4 months. In August alone, 129 million lei were transferred, which made it possible to pay all employees two salaries and even three salaries to large subsidiaries. The management of Moldova Railway announces that by the end of September, the arrears for May will also be paid off, reports rupor.md with reference to bani.md.
Internal reorganization led to process optimization and cost reduction. The number of employees was reduced from 5,900 to 3,700, mainly through the reduction of support functions and retirees, and the wage fund was adjusted from 43 to 35 million lei per month. At the same time, historical debts to the state and strategic suppliers were reduced, including fuel debts, which fell from 7-8 million lei to 1 million lei.
