The Foreign Affairs Council stresses the need to speed up reforms in the six countries of the Eastern Partnership, in areas such as governance, justice, anti-corruption, economic reforms and the business climate. The EU member states Foreign Ministers expressed particular concern about the situation in the Republic of Moldova. According to the EU-Neighbors portal, issues related to the Eastern Partnership were discussed at the Council meeting in advance of the Eastern Partnership Ministerial meeting scheduled for October this year. The Foreign Ministers confirmed that the EU will continue to support the region, reform programs and implementation of priorities called “20 key deliverables for 2020” in order to strengthen the economy, governance, interconnection and society. The Council confirmed relevance of the individual and differentiated approach, according to which each of the 6 countries – Azerbaijan, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine – can itself choose the level of relations that it seeks to develop with the European Union. Moreover, the Ministers noted the progress made in these 6 countries and stressed the need to accelerate reforms in areas such as governance, justice, anti-corruption, economic reforms and the business climate. They expressed particular concern about the situation in Moldova. Finally, the ministers stressed the significance of using the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the partnership in 2019 to emphasize the support to the region by the European Union.
