The U.S. White House urged the Hungarian government not to involve NATO in language-law dispute with Ukraine. “In fact, we are trying to get Hungary to abandon attempts to internationalize its anguage-law dispute with Ukraine and not to use [international] institutions for these purposes”, — quotes TASS representative of the White House. The aggravation of relations between Kyiv and Budapest began after Ukraine adopted the law “On education”. According to the law since 2020 the whole the educative process in the country should be in ukrainian language. The previous law “On the principles of the state language policy” gave the Hungarian language the status of a regional one. After that Hungary initiated a review of all NATO support programs for Ukraine. International Politics Advisor to the President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky Sviatoslav Yurash said that the law on the Ukrainian language adopted by the Verkhovna Rada can have back action. Previously Zelensky stated that the consequences are "difficult to predict", and after taking the office promised to conduct a careful analysis for compliance with the Constitution of Ukraine. On April 25, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state one”. The acting head of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that he would sign the law immediately after receiving the document from the Parliament. The legislative initiative regulates the use of the Ukrainian language as the only state one in all areas of society throughout the country. Exceptions will apply only to private communication and religious rites. Izvestia
