The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, Josep Borrell, said this after a video conference with European development ministers on Wednesday, April 8. “Unless the virus is defeated everywhere, it is not defeated,” Borrel emphasized. The money will go to humanitarian assistance, strengthening health systems, water supply and sanitation, as well as mitigating the social and economic consequences of the pandemic. 20 billion euros - the amount mobilized from the resources of the European Commission, EU member states, as well as the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. A day earlier, European Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen said EU support would be at least 15 billion euros.
