Secretary of State assessed the supply of Russian air defense systems to Syria as a serious escalation of the conflict. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Wednesday that the United States was pulling out of a six-decade-old treaty with Iran. Pompeo stressed that the threat to U.S. diplomatic missions in Baghdad and Basra cams from Iran, and called Tehran’s efforts an attempt to repel U.S. sanctions. He also accused Iran of using the International Court of Justice for political purposes. Still, he said, the United States would continue to try to deliver humanitarian aid to the Iranian people despite the decision of the court, but added that the Iranian authorities are thoughtlessly wasting money that they could use to help their own people. Secretary of State also said that he was pleased with the prospect of a new trip to Pyongyang in order to continue implementing the agreement between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Pompeo has denied allegations that the leadership of North Korea is issuing “negative signals”, including demands for the early lifting of sanctions from the regime. Referring to the Syrian problem, Pompeo stressed that the supply of Russian air defense systems to Syria is a serious escalation of the conflict. Source: Voice of America
