Pompeo talked to the Head of the New Ukrainian Church

The Press Service of the State Department informs that the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had a telephone conversation with Metropolitan Epiphanius, the newly elected Head of the new Ukrainian Autocephalous church. It is said that Pompeo stressed US support for religious freedom and Ukrainian sovereignty. He also “called for respect for the possibility of all Ukrainians to profess religion of their choice”. There are no other details of the conversation in the message. Metropolitan Epiphanius was elected Head of the new Ukrainian Autocephalous church on December 15. Then, a unifying council was held in Kyiv with participation of 200 people, mainly from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate.
