The construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline will be successfully completed despite possible US sanctions, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin. Earlier, the German business newspaper Handelsblatt, citing American diplomatic sources, announced Washington’s plans to impose new sanctions against the pipeline if Moscow tries to complete it. “We are confident that, despite the pressure exerted by the United States, the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline will be successfully completed. The Russian Foreign Ministry intends to contribute as much as possible to this,” Pankin said in an interview with RIA Novosti. Recall that the United States imposed sanctions against Nord Stream-2 and Turkish Stream in December 2019. Washington called the cause of the restrictions "protection of European energy security." Allseas, the gas pipeline company in the Baltic Sea, refused to complete the work. Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller believes Russia itself can complete the construction. Several European countries, including Germany and Austria, oppose US sanctions.
