Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Washington DC for the first time since the war began, where he is to meet President Joe Biden. The US will announce a new aid package for Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet in Washington on December 21. Media reports to this effect were confirmed Wednesday morning by the White House press service. According to CNN, the Ukrainian leader is already on his way to Washington. The network had earlier reported on the upcoming visit, citing knowledgeable sources.
Zelenskyy’s visit will be the first international trip of the Ukrainian President since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24.
According to Axios, the Capitol Hill security service is also preparing for Zelenskyy’s visit because the Ukrainian leader might address Congress. U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked all members of Congress to “physically attend Wednesday night's session,” Axios quotes Pelosi’s letter as saying.
