Farmers Sound Alarm Over Diesel Shortage for Field Work in Moldova

The Farmers’ Power Association has warned of a deepening diesel fuel crisis in Moldova. According to the organization, farmers in several regions of the country are facing not only rising fuel prices but also an increasingly severe diesel shortage at the height of the agricultural season, bani.md reports. The association says that a growing number of farmers are reporting they are unable to purchase the diesel needed for field operations. The situation is particularly critical as the harvest of first-group crops is underway, while land preparation for the summer and autumn sowing campaigns is also in progress. “We have received information that some fuel companies supplying farmers have been out of diesel for the past five to seven days and are unable to say when deliveries will resume,” the Farmers’ Power Association said in a statement. Farmers warn that the diesel shortage could disrupt agricultural operations and further aggravate the challenges facing the sector. The association has called for the immediate intervention of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), the government, and the Competition Council. It is urging the authorities to determine the causes of the shortage and take measures to ensure farmers have access to diesel fuel.
