President Maia Sandu commented on the Chisinau international airport being returned to the state administration. As Sandu said, this is “the result of the anti-corruption efforts,” unimedia.info reports. “This is an important result, proof that something can be done. Obviously it is possible when everyone abides by the law, including in the judiciary, and when anti-corruption institutions are fully engaged. This should encourage us and we must move forward to bring justice and punish the abuses and corrupt practices,” Sandu said. Starting March 28, Chisinau International Airport will no longer be run by Avia Invest and will be placed under state management. Note the operations and management of Chisinau International Airport were transferred to Avia Invest in November 2013 on the basis of a public-private partnership. The concession company undertook to manage the airport for 49 years and invest 250 million euro to modernize it. But the company was accused of failing to fulfill its contractual obligations and investment plan, and demands were made to terminate the concession agreement.
