Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan will visit Kyiv at the end of this week. One of the key topics will be the possibility of importing natural gas from Ukraine.
According to the head of government, the two sides will also discuss energy, water resource management, trade development and security, moldova1.md reports.
“We have a visit to Ukraine scheduled for the end of the week. It is a very important partner for us, and we have many issues in common: energy, water, trade and security,” Vasile Tofan said.
The prime minister noted that Chisinau is already holding active talks with the Ukrainian side on possible solutions for natural gas supplies. According to him, Ukraine produces gas and has surplus volumes available.
“Ukraine is a gas producer and has surplus supplies. We are engaged in intensive negotiations with the Ukrainian side to find solutions that serve the interests of both countries,” Tofan explained.
The upcoming visit will take place approximately one week after a meeting in Chisinau with Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister, Denys Shmyhal.
On October 14, Shmyhal held talks with Vasile Tofan and Moldova’s Energy Minister, Dorin Junghietu. The discussions focused primarily on addressing the energy and hydrological crises, as well as cooperation in natural gas and electricity.
Following the meeting, representatives of the two countries agreed to continue discussions on energy issues during the Moldovan prime minister’s visit to Kyiv.
