Moldovan authorities are considering Ukraine’s proposal to introduce joint border control at selected crossing points located on Moldovan territory.
The initiative is linked to security threats arising from Russian attacks on Ukraine’s border infrastructure. Moldova’s Border Police told Europa Liberă.
The agency clarified that no final decision has been made. The competent authorities are currently analyzing the conditions and possible options for implementing the project, logos-press.md reports.
“The proposal is under consideration by the competent authorities of the Republic of Moldova. The conditions and aspects necessary for its possible implementation are being analyzed,” the Border Police said.
In early October, Kyiv announced plans to open new border crossing points along the border with Moldova. The proposal included installing mobile modules on Moldovan territory.
At the time, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Serhiy Derkach, said the two sides were already working on a roadmap for implementing the project.
The initiative is expected to improve the organization of border controls and enhance security at certain sections of the border. However, the specific crossing points, arrangements for joint operations and the project’s launch date have yet to be determined.
