Home / Politics / Moldova to officially withdraw from CIS in April 2027
This was announced by Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi, who specified the date as 8 April 2027.
According to him, the withdrawal procedure has already been initiated, and a formal notification has been sent to the organization’s secretariat, reports realitatea.md.
“Following the signing of the denunciation of the relevant agreements and their publication in the Monitorul Oficial on 8 April, the secretariat in Minsk was notified, and we received confirmation of receipt of the notification,” Popsoi said.
The minister emphasized that, under international law, Moldova will cease to be a member of the CIS one year after the official notification.
“On 8 April next year, from a legal point of view, we will no longer be part of the CIS,” he stated.
At the same time, the Foreign Minister noted that, in practice, the country has not participated in the organization’s activities for some time.
“From a practical point of view, we have long since ceased to participate in political events and other meetings that do not correspond to our national interests,” Popsoi added.
The decisions to denounce the CIS founding documents were signed by President Maia Sandu and published in the Monitorul Oficial on 8 April. The organization’s member states have already been notified of Chisinau’s decision.
