The European Union may double its funding for the Republic of Moldova through the European Peace Facility, up to €120 million.
This was announced by European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas at a joint press conference with President Maia Sandu in Chisinau, according to deschide.md.
The European Union representative noted that the Republic of Moldova is one of the European Union’s strongest and closest partners, but EU representatives want our country to become a full member of the community.
“We recognize the efforts and pace of reforms. We want to help the Republic of Moldova move as close as possible to the EU,” she said.
Kaja Kallas noted that the EU will continue to support all efforts by the Chisinau authorities on the path to European integration.
“We want to see Moldova as a safe country, capable of protecting its citizens. We have proposed to Member States that they double funding through the European Peace Facility to €120 million. This will be the largest amount of aid offered to the country,” she concluded.
