Home / Politics / Grosu Suggested that Moldova and Ukraine Might Split Apart During the Process of European Integration
According to Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, everything will depend on the speed with which candidate countries implement the necessary reforms.
The comments were made at the Bucharest Security Forum during a panel discussion on EU enlargement, Radio Moldova reports.
In the current geopolitical context, the whole of Europe must show greater determination, Igor Grosu stated. The enlargement of the European Union is important for the security of the entire region and for strengthening long-term stability.
“A strong, democratic and European Moldova means a more stable region and a more united European Union,” Igor Grosu stated.
The Speaker of Parliament noted that candidate countries deserve a common starting point – a political decision to open negotiations – after which each should proceed at its own pace.
“Each country must move forward based on its own results and progress on each chapter that needs to be negotiated and closed. The principle of meritocracy must remain,” added Igor Grosu.
Officials and security experts gathered on Tuesday, 12 May, in Bucharest for the “Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum”. Now in its tenth edition, the forum focuses on defense, security and international relations in the wider Black Sea and Balkan region.
The meeting included panel discussions on risks, threats and vulnerabilities in the region and was organized by the Centre for New Strategy under the high patronage of Romanian President Nicusor Dan.
