On Monday the Moldovan President Igor Dodon, speaking on the 25th anniversary of the Moldovan constitution, said that the main condition for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict is the neutrality of the country. “The Constitution of the Republic of Moldova enshrines the principle of permanent neutrality of the country. Strict adherence to this principle is a fundamental condition for the settlement of the Transnistrian problem and the reintegration of the country,” Dodon said, ria.ru reports. According to him, there is a favorable situation in the country to find a political solution to the existing problem. “We must make every effort to achieve a mutually acceptable solution that would bring long-term peace to Moldova and conditions for the economic and social development of both banks of the Dniester. Overcoming this problem could be a diplomatic success for our external partners involved in the 5+2 format of negotiations,” the President said. Chisinau and Tiraspol as parties to the conflict, Russia, Ukraine, OSCE are mediators and the EU and the U.S. are observers in the negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement in the 5+2 format.
