Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi met on 5 July with representatives of the Observation Mission for the early parliamentary elections of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. The head of the group, Tamas Meszerics, spoke about the goals and role of the mission in the current early parliamentary elections. According to him, the electoral process is still taking place within the legal framework, in compliance with democratic principles and without serious violations. Observers are currently working on a preliminary report to be released before the election day, moldpres.md reports. The Acting Prime Minister appreciated the importance of the mission and international observers in ensuring a fair, just and transparent electoral process. Aureliu Ciocoi noted that the authorities are making every effort to ensure that each citizen can exercise his or her right to vote in maximum security. At the same time, he called on the mission representatives to be more persistent and ensure compliance with all European standards both on the right and left banks of the Dniester. “Despite the fact that political instability creates a lack of accountability in some institutions, the electoral process must be absolutely fair. Nobody can infringe on the constitutional right of citizens to vote,” the acting chairman of the government summed up. Immediately after July 11, the OSCE/ODIHR Mission assigned to our country will issue a Statement on Preliminary Findings and Conclusions. The final monitoring report of the entire electoral process will be published two months after the elections, it will also include specific recommendations for improving the electoral process. The election observation mission in the Republic of Moldova involves 28 long-term observers and 300 short-term observers from the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission.
