Authorities Want to Expropriate More Land to Expand the Port of Giurgiulești

The government plans to expropriate a 0.6-hectare private plot outside Giurgiulești village in Cahul district to expand the International Free Port. According to the explanatory note to the draft resolution prepared by the Public Property Agency (APP), the land plot had previously been mistakenly left off the initial list of plots designated for the port’s expansion, logos-pres.md reports. The sector includes 54 land parcels covering about 35.07 hectares. Final expropriation decisions have been issued for 40 of them. The authorities say adding the 0.6-hectare plot is needed to “consolidate Sector No. 2” and finalize the expropriation process. If the project is approved, APP will be appointed as the body responsible for the expropriation procedure. The agency will organise an evaluation of the land and determine the compensation that should be paid to the owner. The authorities say the expropriation will involve fair and advance compensation, in line with legislation governing the expropriation of property for public use.
