If Belarus allows an attack on Ukraine from its territory, Washington will take retaliatory measures. In this case, NATO may reconsider deploying its troops in the countries bordering Belarus.
The US administration has threatened Minsk with retaliatory measures if it supports Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Washington has made it clear to the Belarusian authorities that “there will be a quick and decisive response from the United States, our allies and partners” if it allows an attack on Ukraine from its territory, US State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters on Tuesday, January 25.
“If the invasion comes from Belarus, if Russian troops are permanently stationed on its territory, then NATO may reconsider deploying its troops in countries bordering Belarus,” Price added.
About a week ago, Moscow began joint military maneuvers with Belarus. Earlier, the United States warned about the inadmissibility of deploying Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus.
Due to the Russian troops stationed on the border with Ukraine, Kiev and Western countries fear a Russian invasion of a neighboring state. The West has threatened Russia with large-scale sanctions in the event of an attack. Moscow denies the accusations, saying it senses threat from Ukraine and NATO.
