The congress of the so-called deputies of the unrecognized Transnistria adopted an appeal to Russia with a request to “shield from Moldova’s pressure”, addressing also a number of international organizations.
The appeal was addressed to the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Russian Federation, asking them for “measures to protect Transnistria in conditions of increased pressure from Moldova”.
According to the Transnistrian “deputies”, Chisinau has launched an “economic warfare” against Transnistria, meaning the cancellation of customs privileges, and is deliberately blocking negotiations with Tiraspol.
They also appealed to the OSCE, the CIS, the European Parliament, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the UN Secretary General with a request to “influence the Moldovan authorities to return to an adequate dialogue”.
It should be recalled that the congress of Transnistrian “deputies” of all levels in Tiraspol is the seventh such event. The previous one was held back in 2006.
Before the congress, there were fears that the “deputies” might call on Moscow to annex the unrecognized region to Russia, but Chisinau, Kyiv and Tiraspol denied such assumptions at the level of official statements.
