The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry plans to attack the Crimean bridge again in the first half of 2024. This was reported by the British newspaper Guardian with reference to high-ranking officials of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
“We are going to do it in the first half of 2024,” a Ukrainian intelligence official said. According to the sources, the head of the HUR, Kyrylo Budanov, already has “most of the means to achieve this goal”. The attack may be carried out with the help of drones. The publication notes that the attack on the bridge is part of the plan approved by Volodymyr Zelensky to “minimize” Russia’s presence in the Black Sea.
After the outbreak of the military conflict, Ukraine attacked the Crimean bridge twice. On 8 October 2022, a truck passing over the bridge exploded, damaging the railway bed and destroying several spans of the motorway. The second explosion occurred on 17 July 2023: a family from the Belgorod oblast, which was travelling over the bridge by car at the time, was killed in a maritime drone attack.
