The President of Moldova expressed confidence that the new leader of Romania will maintain a pro-European course and support Chisinau on its path to the EU. She emphasized that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova do not want Bucharest to follow Moscow’s instructions. The authorities of the Republic of Moldova want to continue their partnership with Romania after the presidential elections in May. “We have serious plans with Romania”, said President Maia Sandu, expressing confidence that the head of the Romanian state will be a politician with pro-European views who will support the Republic of Moldova on its path to European integration, as reported by moldpres.md. “We want to continue having a strong partnership with Romania, to be able to count on it as we have been able to in recent years. The last thing we would want is for our partners in Bucharest to take instructions from Moscow, but I really hope this won’t happen. Romania is a strong, democratic, pro-European country, but there are risks, even for more consolidated democracies. I believe that citizens can mobilize and overcome these situations”, said Maia Sandu in an interview with the public radio station Radio Moldova. The President listed the actions and projects that the Republic of Moldova intends to implement in partnership with Romania. “We need a president with whom we can continue to copperate and whom we can support so that he continues to promote Moldova’s EU accession. We have serious plans: to build bridges, to build a motorway, to carry out the process of economic integration, to put customs in order so that we don’t lose much time. We need a reliable partner for all these ambitious projects,” the head of state said. The presidential elections in Romania will take place on May 4 and 18, after the elections held in November 2024 were annulled by the Constitutional Court of Romania. A total of 11 candidates have been registered for the election campaign.
