Former judge Victoria Sanduta said that Vladimir Plahotniuc had left Moldova through the US embassy and criticized the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) for electoral control.
“How did Plahotniuc leave Moldova? Through the US embassy. There is a video. Or does the SIS only monitor the Russian Federation embassy? Where are other briefings? This is what the SIS should be doing, not wiretapping, intercepting, spying on citizens who express a different point of view from the government...,” said Victoria Sanduta during the Puterea a Patra programme on the N4 TV channel, noi.md reports.
The former judge also noted cases when, in her opinion, certain powers are exceeded, as this is quite dangerous for a society that claims to be democratic.
“On social media at home, you wake up and find out that you are being followed or bugged by the SIS, without the bailiff’s permission to do so. In such a case, no one takes responsibility. There is an international legal framework called judicial control. There are principles that characterize a democratic society. There are special investigative measures where you can check whether a search is really a legitimate need based on a reasonable suspicion that the person may be a criminal or a danger, or whether the search is a measure of intimidation, harassment or personal revenge. Can you guarantee that the watch list contains people who pose a danger to the state and not those against whom the SIS officer has personal revenge?’, wondered Victoria Sanduta.
