No customs officers have been suspended in connection with the case of a truck carrying weapons discovered at the Leuseni-Albita border, according to the head of the Customs Service, Radu Vrabie. He stated that, in the absence of clear investigative findings regarding staff involvement, all employees continue to perform their duties.
Radu Vrabie explained that there are currently no grounds to suspend any customs officers, as their involvement in the illegal transport has not been proven, ipn.md reports.
“During the investigation, we do not have any Customs Service employees suspended from work. This weapons shipment was not transported by customs officers. The investigation must determine whether the truck passed with the assistance of any Customs Service employees. If the investigation finds involvement of individuals, the prosecutor’s office will make that information public,” Vrabie said on the “Rezoomat” program on Realitatea TV.
The head of the Customs Service stressed that disciplinary measures will only be taken if the investigation proves the involvement of any staff members. He also insisted on respecting the presumption of innocence, noting that sanctions cannot be applied without conclusive evidence.
“If there are requests, I will suspend those involved. On the other hand, we must operate in a rule-of-law state where the presumption of innocence applies. As long as the investigation is not completed and has not provided answers, it is premature to speak about possible punishments,” he added.
In November 2025, a truck was discovered at the Leuseni-Albita customs checkpoint carrying a significant cache of military equipment. According to official information, the shipment included 18 portable anti-tank missiles, 8 anti-tank grenade launchers, a portable air defense system, and drone components.
