Former PAS MP and ex-head of the parliamentary legal commission in the previous legislature, Olesea Stamate, has won a first-instance court case against the ruling party.
On June 19, the Chisinau Court declared invalid the decision of the PAS National Political Bureau dated April 4, 2025, which had expelled her from the party, ziua.md reports.
Judge Alexandru Ceban ruled that Stamate must be reinstated as a PAS member and returned to her legal status as it existed before the expulsion decision. The court also ordered the party to update its internal records and relevant registries to reflect the annulment of the decision.
PAS was additionally ordered to pay court costs amounting to 400 lei to the claimant.
The ruling is not final and may be appealed to the “Centru” Court of Appeal within 30 days of its announcement.
Stamate was expelled from PAS on April 4, 2025, amid controversies related to amendments to the amnesty law. She later left the party’s parliamentary faction and continued her activity as an independent MP.
A lawyer by profession, Stamate previously served as Minister of Justice in the government of Maia Sandu, was vice-president of PAS, and a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. She chaired the parliamentary legal commission until January 2024, after which she stepped down as chair while remaining a member of the commission.
