Two initiatives have been put forward in parliament to set up investigative committees to scrutinize the activities of state-owned enterprises and the procedures for appointing officials to public office. MP Dinu Plingau stated that he would propose the establishment of a parliamentary committee to investigate the activities of state-owned enterprises. According to him, the investigation should cover several areas at once, reports logos-pres.md. “I had a conversation with the Speaker of Parliament, and I put forward the initiative to set up a commission to investigate the activities of state-owned enterprises. In my view, the work should focus on three areas: personnel appointments, the profitability of enterprises, and the situation of enterprises undergoing insolvency proceedings,” said the MP. According to Plingau, the commission should comprise not only MPs from all parliamentary factions, but also investigative journalists, as well as representatives of the National Anticorruption Centre and the State Tax Service. Separately, MPs Vlad Batrincea and Adela Raileanu have tabled a draft resolution to establish a parliamentary investigative commission to examine the procedures for the selection, nomination and appointment to public office within government bodies and state-owned enterprises during the period 2021-2026. It should be recalled that Moldovan President Maia Sandu had previously announced a package of measures to reform state-owned enterprises. This package provides for the listing on the stock exchange of minority stakes in commercially viable companies, an expansion of the scope of financial information published, and the reorganization of the Public Property Agency. These measures were proposed following the scandal surrounding the state-owned enterprise MoldATSA.
