Vasile Costiuc, leader of the “Democracy at Home” party, has stated that Maia Sandu has already decided on a candidate for the post of Prime Minister, but is in no hurry to nominate them, as she is not certain that all 55 MPs in the majority will support the candidate. “I’ll let you in on a big secret. Maia Sandu has a candidate for the post of Prime Minister, but until she has rallied and convinced all 55 MPs to vote for Maia Sandu’s candidate, rather than PAS’, there is no point in holding consultations. Because after the consultations, a candidate must be put forward,” Costiuc said, as quoted by omniapres.md According to him, the head of state could appoint a candidate right now, but is not doing so because she fears that parliament will not support him. “She can put him forward. But she knows he won’t get through parliament,” said the politician. Costiuc believes that the problem lies not in the lack of a candidate, but in the existence of various influential factions within the government. “She cannot reconcile the groups that have got a taste for public money. Millions, billions. Maшa, show some courage, put forward the first candidate – Tofan, that one from parliament or “Cold” (Recean) – it no longer matters what the prime minister is called,” he said. The politician also expressed the view that former Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu did not hold any real power within the government. “It didn’t matter that Munteanu was prime minister. He didn’t hold the real power. The country’s fate was decided by influential groups, not by the prime minister,” Costiuc said. He called on Maia Sandu to put forward a candidate for the post of head of government, even if parliament does not support them at the first attempt. “If they don’t vote for the first candidate, they’ll vote for the second. If not the second, we’ll propose a third. And if you’re unable to cope and are causing destabilization, then let’s hold early elections. Let the people decide whether they want to see the PAS parliamentary majority remain in power or whether they have had enough of it,” said the party leader. The President’s Office has not yet commented on these statements.
