US President Donald Trump announced his readiness to end the so-called trade war with the European Union. To achieve that, he proposed both the US and the EU to eliminate all tariffs, barriers and subsidies. “That would finally be called Free Market and Fair Trade” Trump wrote on Twitter and noted that Washington is already ready to fulfill its part of the deal. On Wednesday trade relations between the United States and the European Union will be discussed in Washington. The head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström have already arrived there. Earlier Trump stated that this meeting “should have happened several years ago”. He also argued that the EU did “unfair trade” for many years. The European Commission announced today that they can draw up a list of $20 billion of U.S. goods to hit with duties if Washington imposes tariffs on imported European cars and spare parts for cars. In March this year the US increased duties on steel and aluminum from Europe, Canada and Mexico. In response the EU imposed taxes on goods from the US –steel products, whiskey, peanut butter, Harley Davidson motorcycles and Levi’s jeans. At the same time the European Union expressed its readiness to resolve the trade conflict, because it threatens the entire world economy. Source: Radio Liberty
