The President of Moldova Igor Dodon will not run for the next parliamentary elections because this is against the law, said Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, IPN reports. “Parliament makes laws in the country. Under the Constitution, the President is a kind of referee who balances the powers, including the political game of parties. He cannot adopt a predominant political position to support one side or another,” stated the Speaker. According to him, the President is not a political, but an institutional player. As to the temporary suspensions of the President from office, Andrian Candu said the Head of State cannot have an own candidate in particular posts. This means that he assumes governance directly or indirectly. “The President now does not assume governance. He is in opposition to the government. Moreover, the Constitution and some of the laws specify the President of the Republic of Moldova cannot be affiliated politically and cannot be a party member,” noted the Speaker of Parliament. “ I think  we will clarify this issue one way or another so that Igor Dodon does not become an active participant in the parliamentary elections”, stated Andrian Candu.
