Open Society Foundations ceases operations in Turkey under the authorities pressure. The American billionaire George Soros Foundation - Open Society Foundations - will cease its activities in Turkey against the backdrop of harsh criticism from the president of this country Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The corresponding statement was made public by representatives of this charitable organization. The Turkish leader blamed American philanthropist in attempts to “raise controversy” between individual states and “shake” their structure. Allegations were also replicated in local media that the Foundation was behind the protests that took place on Taksim Square in the center of Istanbul in May 2013, and then spread to other cities in Turkey. In addition, Erdogan expressed confidence that Soros supported Osman Kavala, a major Turkish businessman and chairman of the Istanbul non-profit organization Anadolu Kültür. The Turkish President lays the blame on the entrepreneur for financing the people who allegedly stood behind the failed coup attempt in July 2016. The Open Society Foundations reject all accusations.
