The speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Andrian Candu said that Russia’s initiatives to remove customs duties on certain goods for six months as well as migration amnesty can be considered as interference in the electoral process in Moldova. Following agreements between the leaders of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Putin and Igor Dodon, on December 3, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation announced a “migration amnesty” for citizens of the Republic of Moldova who violated the terms of their period of stay in Russia. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, the amnesty will be valid from January 1 to February 24, 2019, reports ria.ru. “If the migration amnesty was introduced six months ago, a year ago or a year later, I would agree that there is no connection with the elections ... Moreover, lifting the embargo for six months is also closely related to the election campaign - this means that both of these initiatives are aimed at securing the votes of citizens for the Socialist Party and Dodon, who is a member of this party”, Candu said on Friday for RTR Moldova. It seems to him strange that a migratory amnesty can be obtained only if Moldovan citizens go home and come back after the elections. “If the conditions are formulated in such a manner, it means that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova are encouraged to take part in the elections”, the speaker said.
