Socialist Party plans to elaborate a new law "On languages functioning on the territory of Moldova." The leader of the Socialist Party Igor Dodon wrote about on his Facebook page. "Due to the fact that the Constitutional Court of the country previously announced the law" On languages functioning " adopted by the Parliament on December 16, 2020, not in line with the Basic Law, it was decided to elaborate a new bill," Dodon wrote. He said that before the discussion in parliament, the new bill will be held public hearings in parliamentary commissions. Recall, in December last year the parliament adopted the law “On languages functioning on the territory of Moldova”. It provides that those living in Moldova can apply to state authorities, state institutions, enterprises and organizations in the state or Russian language. In addition, civil servants may be required to provide translation of documents into Russian at citizens’ request, accept applications in Russian and provide information in the language in which the application is written. In an explanatory note to the new law “On languages functioning”, the authors of the project deputies from PSRM Vlad Batrancea, Bogdan Tsardea, Adrian Lebedinschi and Vasile Bolea reminded that in 2018, the Constitutional Court considered obsolete the law "On Languages Functioning on the Territory of the MSSR" (that was a law providing the status of language of interethnic communication to the Russian language).
