Samples collected from patients with COVID-19 atypical forms were sent to Germany to determine the presence or absence of new Delta and Lambda strains.
This was stated by the interim Minister of Health Tatiana Zatic, who said that at the moment only the presence of the Alpha (British) strain has been confirmed in our country. According to her, in order to prevent the import of the virus from other countries, the Moldovan authorities are introducing additional restrictions on crossing the state border,
ipn.md reports.
The authorities note that the recent increase in COVID-19 cases is due to non-compliance with sanitary standards on the election day and in the run-up to the elections, which took place on July 11. In addition, according to the head of health care, many of our compatriots are returning already with an infection from a vacation spent abroad.
Last week, the number of deaths doubled, which indicates an increase in the severity of the disease. There are several reasons for such an increase. It was election day and the pre-election period. In addition, during the summer period all citizens relax, precautions are no longer observed. It is also a period of going abroad," Tatiana Zatic said during the Moldova on direct broadcast on the public TV channel.
According to Tatiana Zatic, the presence of new strains of Delta and Lambda has not been officially confirmed yet. However, there have recently been cases of an atypical course of the disease, which make epidemiologists beat the alarm.
"Delta and Lambda strains are much more dangerous and infectious. For this reason, border crossing restrictions have been increased to stop the spread of infection. Now we are awaiting equipment that will allow us to detect new strains. Currently, samples collected from people who have an atypical form of the disease are transported to a laboratory in Germany, with which we cooperate. We do not have confirmation of the presence of new strains yet. We only have confirmation of the British strain," Tatiana Zatic said.
Yesterday, 84 more cases of the SARS-COV-2 virus were confirmed. 279 people with confirmed COVID-19 infection have been hospitalized, 53 of them are in extremely serious condition.
